
Two Former NJCAA Student-Athletes Win Silver Medal at FISU World University Games
Charlotte, NC – Two former National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) student-athletes were part of the Team USA men’s basketball squad that took home the silver medal at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. The United States fell in overtime, 88-94, to Brazil at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany, on Saturday, July 26.
Team USA was represented by Baylor University men’s basketball which featured two student-athletes with NJCAA ties: Obi Agbim and JJ White. Agbim played for Northeastern Junior College (CO) in 2022-23, averaging 16.8 points per game as a freshman. White played his freshman season at Colby Community College (KS) in 2021-22 where he scored in double figures 22 times, including a 13-game double-figure scoring streak.
In the gold medal game, Agbim led Team USA with 30 points along with 11 rebounds, three steals and two assists. White hit a three-pointer in overtime to halt Brazil’s early scoring run, but the United States could not come back to win.
The FISU World University Games are the world's largest event for student-athletes and the second-largest global Olympic multi-sport event, second only to the Olympic Games. Held every other year in the odd year, the Games feature the best collegiate and university athletes from over 150 countries competing in 15 compulsory sports and 3 optional sports during a 12–day event.
In 2029, the FISU World University Games will be held in the Raleigh-Durham-Cary-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina. This will mark the first time the event will be held in the United States since 1993. Learn more about the 2029 FISU World University Games here.
